Costumes for kids and grandkids

 These are costumes I've made for my kids and grandkids. Some are revamped from old clothing and other costumes and some are made from fabric scraps or pellon and then painted, glued, etc.. I love making play clothes and costumes for them that they can dress up and imagine and dream about their superheroes or characters they want to experience. Dress up and creative play are very important to a childs imagination and help them learn to expand their own perspectives. I hope as they play with these clothes and costumes that they feel free to use them up till they're worn out, that they learn how to make their own, and enjoy the fun they are meant to give.

Denim Purses

 

Denim purses made from thrift store skirts and fabric scraps with antique buttons. I sell these for $45.00 each and they have lots of pockets, sturdy straps, inner lining, reinforced stitching, and really cute unique one of a kind floral and art designs on the fronts all securely stitched and made to be sturdy and durable.  

Caille's Ship Mural

Two years ago I drove to Seattle and stayed with my son and his wife and my grandson Caille's home. They had a painter prime and paint the wall of his bedroom in preparation for a pirate ship mural. We went to the library and checked out several books on ships and pirates and planets.
Then I made some sketches and got a few supplies at Michael's Crafts. Caille and I spent a couple of days sketching the design out and he helped with his own drawings behind the door.

Then using a mostly monochromatic color scheme we painted the details and then embellished the sky and edges with a sparkly dimensional paint. It turned out very cool.

BOSOPO

This is our new Chicken Coop which I'm calling BOSOPO for Benevolent Order of the Sisterhood of the Perpetual Ovulators. I designed it and Bill built it. We have a little trim to finish but it's quite nice and accommodating for the 17 hens we have. The double doors open to a grain and garden storage closet that is 30" deep and the single door opens to an 8' x 9' space for the girls with linolium flooring for easy cleaning and a small door/hatch to the fenced chicken yard.

Wood Carving

This is a wood carving I made for Bill for Christmas from a chunk of  pine that was in his woodpile. I loved the rough curvy bark on one side and so he cut the back and bottom level and I used his chisel and a knife to carve the relief. It represents our local Kolob mountains as well as other formations in the Southern Utah area. I stained it with a red oil stain and polished it with mineral oil. It is about 12" long and 4" tall.

Grandma Doll

This is a doll I made for Bill's granddaughter. She is a Grandma Dahl doll and is free standing. Her dress has pockets for a small tape player, mini books and a cassette tapes. Bill and I read various stories onto tape and his granddaughter can listen to them as she holds the grandma doll. She turned out really sweet and soft.
She is made from fleece and batting with a large paint stick holding her up inside and wire armature for her arms, which can bend. Her hair is a soft yellow yarn and her eyes are made from buttons and craft foam. She has boobies and a sparkly heart as well.

The American Dream

I've titled this piece, "The American Dream" and it has already been sold but I'm selling 8 x 10 signed prints for a mere $20.00. Paula Deen riding Jesus riding a T-Rex and Sarah Palin with a ball gag and a bevy of Tea Party supporters has something for everyone. It's acrylic on a 16 x 24 canvas.
